Perplexity is an AI search and research assistant that answers questions with links to the sources it used, which makes checking facts easier than with a plain chatbot. Its pricing page lists a free plan with limited weekly usage, Pro at $17 per month billed annually, and Max at $167 per month billed annually. Pro raises limits and adds premium data sources such as PitchBook and Statista, search across files and apps, and a choice of model per query. For freelance writers it speeds up background research and source-finding. Sources can still be weak or misread, so open them before citing anything, and it is less suited to long-form drafting than ChatGPT or Claude.
